Le Pont Boulangerie - Novel Noel: Le Pont's Imaginative take on Christmas @ OUG, Jalan Kelang Lama, KL

11:39:00 PM

Le Pont Boulangerie is a stunning and incredibly well-designed bakery and cafe, located at the heart of OUG, Jalan Kelang Lama. The cafe features a 3-storey shoplot, with different dining setting all the way up. The design concept is very much industrial, with extended use of timber to create a warm and cozy vibe.

*The inspiration behind the name Le Pont (French for "The Bridge") comes from our desire to capture our vision of unique space where people can come together and forge new friendships and our aspiration to create a food & beverage concept where food and drink connect seamlessly. Thus was born a French European boulangerie - patisserie - cafe that strives to connect cultures, link great food with memorable moments and showcase culinary craftsmanship and gastronomic creativity. We are about modern yet comforting cafe cuisine, traditionally artisanal yet innovative breads and pastries, all enjoyed with our custom-roasted house blend of coffee and specially-crafted drinks. Bridging past and present, connecting traditional and contemporary, fusing artisanal with functional. - Le Pont Boulangerie.

The entrance.

Upon entering the cafe, you'll be greeted by a line of bread and pastries. This photo was taken at night at that is why most of them are already sold out.

As I've mentioned earlier, the place is incredibly well designed. Plenty open spaces with double and triple volume space.

Without further ado, lets begin with the Christmas 3-course meal that cost RM58.90

Vichyssoise Soup - RM12.90

Vichyssoise is a thick soup made of puréed leeks, onions, potatoes, cream, and chicken stock. The colour was slightly darker and murkier, but had a decent amount of flavour to it. It's a great appetizer to initiate the feast.

Frisee & Beef Bacon Salad - RM16.90

The Frisee & Beef Bacon Salad is quite a simple one. Frisee served with egg confit, shaved mushrooms and honey mustard dressing topped with crispy beef bacon on the side. It's a pretty rich salad dish to say the least, but delicious nonetheless.

Seafood Red Rhapsody - RM38

This was a hearty serving of bauillabaisse seafood stew that consists of razor clams, regular clams, mussels, prawns, and a tender chunk of seabass alongside garlic toast. Simple, hearty and absolutely delicious. Do finish everything else before having the garlic toast as it is meant to soak up what is left of the stew.

These are the 3 items for the Christmas 3-course menu.

Salad Nicoise - RM16.90

A classic French salad with fresh green beans, tuna, black olives, dried shallots, shredded full boiled egg top with shallot vinaigrette. Simple, refreshing and healthy. I liked it.

Le Pont Special Lambshank - RM37.90

This is probably one of the best lambshank that I've had under the price tag of RM50. To be fair, I think it taste better quite a number of high-end vevrsion of lambshank. The meat was fork-tender that it literally falls of the bone with minimal force. It has also soaked up quite a good amount of flavour from the house made apricot sauce. Served with a side of potatoes, roasted peppers and asparagus, this is dish comes highly recommended!

Beginning of the drinks session where everyone is doing their SnapChat nonsense.

Orange Cinnamon Bliss - RM14.50

The Orange Cinnamon Bliss is one of two drinks available at Le Pont Boulangerie's Christmas menu. This cup of coffee and orange concoction was indeed refreshing. The bitterness of the long black is countered by the zesty and fresh taste of orange. Apart from the mix of coffee and orange, the ice itself is frozen from the same base, so by diluting it, the flavour actually intensifies. Good balance of flavour and definitely refreshing to say the least.

Cinnamon Affogato - RM14.50

For those that are a fan of cinnamon, you might just enjoy this delicious cup of dessert. The cinnamon ice cream was spot on in terms of flavour, while maintaining a smooth and velvety texture. The espresso shot poured into it gave it that added bitterness and depth of flavour, counteracting the sweetness of the cinnamon. In combination, they worked brilliantly together.

Christmas Tree Waffle - RM17.90

The Christmas Tree Waffle comes with a cup of raspberry sorbet on a bed of almond crumble, diced strawberries, whipped cream and topped with tiny 'white-chocolate-chip-like' meringe, finished with a side of candy cane. The 'Christmas Tree' is made by stacking strips of specialty jade waffles with an edible santa on top. Waffles were really soft, fluffy and had a decent amount of flavour to it.  The raspberry sorbet is made from freshly frozen raspberry, smoothly churned to perfection. A good balance of flavour along with a good amount of bite.

Molten Snowman - RM19.90

If you're a fan of chocolate lava cake, you might like this as well. The richness of the chocolate lava cake worked really well with the vanilla ice cream and additional sugar dusting on top. Topped with a various amount of chocolatey decor, this dessert was both rich and delicious.

Snowy Wonderland - RM20.90

The Snowy Wonderland is probably one of the most popular, upcoming trend of chocolate desserts around. By encasing the vanilla ice cream in a hard chocolate shell, pouring additional melted chocolate will unlock the treasure within. Not as chocolate as the rest but certainly was milky and creamy. A good dessert to end the meal with.

In conclusion, Le Pont Boulangerie is more than just a place for pastries and bread. Their wide selection of mains and items from their Christmas menu too were absolutely delicious. Dishes that has great flavour or perhaps, an immense amount of thought put into it. Some of my favourite includes the Nicoise Salad, Lambshank, Orange Cinnamon Bliss, Christmas Tree Waffle and Cinnamon Affogato. All of which had one thing in common - balance and depth of flavour.

So what are you waiting for? The Christmas menu lasts from the 23rd of November 2015 till the 4th of January 2016.
