Gyukingu Japanese BBQ @ Kota Damansara, PJ

Good BBQ are hard to come by, especially with more people demanding buffet and cheap cuts of meat. Fortunately, Gyukingu Japanese BBQ has stuck to its origins, by offering quality meat at a fairly affordable price. This cozy restaurant is located right in front of Sunway Giza, and Google Maps or Waze brings you directly here. It is also located on the 1st floor, so do remember to look up when you're around the area.

Gyukingu Japanese Restaurant, right above Al Rajhi Bank.

A fairly warm and cozy interior. It is also a little dark, but I simply love the ambiance of dark places.

Scallop with Sake and Butter

US Beef

Pork Belly

Australian A5 Wagyu

Starting off with slices of imported Australian Wagyu, seasoned with only salt and pepper to bring out the natural flavour of the meat. This, was by far one of the best that I've had in a long time. I like my medium rare, so cooking it on high temp for a short amount of time proves to be the most efficient.

The flavours were phenomenal, with a sweetness coming through as the fats melts in my mouth. Amazing, absolutely amazing. If you're visiting, you have to go for this serving of wagyu.

Next up, pork belly. Generously cut and soaked in a bit of homemade soy-base marination, giving that added depth and dimension of flavour that it needs. As for the wagyu, I believe in solely salt and pepper, but for the pork belly, the soy-base marination goes really well! Lovely!

Last but not least, US striploins! Because I had the wagyu first, this felt merely alright to me. It is good, don't get me wrong, but in comparison to the wagyu, there is just no way around it.

Garlic fried rice - a great companion to the otherwise meatilicious BBQ feast. I have to have my staple, be it bread, noodle or rice. Gyukingu's Japanese BBQ's approach to the classic garlic fried rice is commendable, with the smokiness of the wok coming through with each bite.

To finish, I had a set of green tea ice cream dessert. One that comes with red bean, homemade mochi using imported flour, jelly, brown sugar and a side of hot green tea. Delightful!

Overall, if you do have cash to spare, then Gyukingu Japanese BBQ is definitely worth going for. With premium cuts of meat to the friendly service, there's just nothing bad about this place. Prices may be a little higher than most, but it is expected with such quality.
