Frenz Cafe @ Plaza Damas (Right next to Hartamas Shopping Center)

2:23:00 PM

Hello again from Bangsar, the place where I'm currently residing or one may know it as internship/hell. Anyway, I was able to try this restaurant with the recommendation of Mrs Hong @ http://followmetoeatla.blogspot.com/. I hereby express my gratitude to her!

Moving along, Frenz is located at Plaza Damas, although as said on the title but regardless, it wasn't all that easy to find. I had to circle around few blocks to finally stumbled upon it. Not to mention with so many cafe or restaurant located around the same area, it was tough!

The entrance.

Green Apple Juice, Cucumber & Lime and Watermelon Juice.

We started off with a generous selection of fresh juices! There is nothing much to say besides the freshness and concentration of each cup. I think I had a total of 6-7 servings that night. Immediate detox the next morning!

Curry Fish Head

Humongous fish head drench in lots of vegetables and curry. It smelled absolutely amazing. The curry wasn't as rich as I'd expected because there was no coconut milk used. Even without the coconut milk, the curry still had a strong flavour to it which I really like. Goes amazingly well with white rice! Lets not forget the portion of the dish!

Hong Kong Kailan with Beef

Something common that we eat in plenty of Chinese restaurant. However, as simple as it may look, a mountain of restaurant tend to screw this up, amazingly. The good thing is, Frenz Cafe did not. The overall dish was garlic-ky and flavourful with the Kailan and beef being cooked perfectly. A simple dish that I really enjoyed.

Nyonya Chicken

Despite looking the ugliest among all dishes, it was the most flavourful and my favourite dish of the evening. The chicken was tender, the spices used were phenomenal and I can't emphasize this enough, its the wife of rice.

Steamed Brinjal/Eggplant

First, I would like to clarify that I absolutely love eggplants. This was no exception. The eggplant was sliced into strips and distributed evenly on a plate. The amazing thing, it was only 1 eggplant. They kept the head intact and twisted it as it was laid on the plate. Simple style of serving but note-worthy nonetheless.

Really good flavours with even consistency. No more, no less. It was just right as it represents a sense of home-cooked dish.

Salted Egg Chicken

Famous for its versatility among different types of meat; chicken, fish, prawns, squid etc. The "salted egg" styled cooking is something that will hardly disappoint.

A good balance of saltiness and creaminess. I only wish it was a little more salty but it was alright. The chicken was a little hard on the skin but was tender inside. It was a good dish but I believe it could be improved.

Ginger Fried Rice

To begin, I really hate the taste and smell of ginger. I am able to sense the presence of ginger within a 3 feet radius. This dish, was a game changer. By that I don't mean that I love ginger now, it simply meant that I could not tell that there was ginger.

It was simple, the fried rice was cooked rather consistently with ginger. The amazing part was, initially I couldn't taste the ginger but as I progress, the bitterness was slowly finding its way to my tongue. What really surprised me was the fact that I kinda like it. As much as I despise ginger, this was more than acceptable.

Overall, my experiences at Frenz cafe was really good. They prepared all those dishes which reminded me of home. Nothing fancy, expensive or fast food. Just good old home-cooked style dishes that I miss. It was a good place indeed.
