Yakiniku Goro Authentic Japanese BBQ @ Desa Sri Hartamas, KL

Beef lovers out there, here's one place you'll definitely have to check out. Yakiniku Goro at Desa Sri Hartamas is a rather small Japanese BBQ place owned and run by a Japanese family. You'll notice the authenticity of the establishment as you enter the shop - where there are mostly Japanese customers (when I was there, I was the only local, everyone else was Japanese).

Tokushima Wagyu Side Skirt - RM65 (100g)
Starting with some of the premium cuts, this Tokushima Wagyu Side Skirt is definitely one of my favourites. I'm not sure how it compares to their Japan Premium Short Rib at RM100 (100g), but this was definitely well worth the money.

Just look at how gorgeous that meat is.

It's really beefy with a good balance of fat, making the meat incredibly tender and juicy. You can definitely go both ways in terms of grilling - either charred or medium rare. Both are equally great. Maximum flavour, reasonable price, highly recommended.

USA Premium Beef Short Rib - RM35 (100g)

Now unlike the Premium Wagyu, this USA Premium Beef Short Rib is a fraction of the price. Coming in reasonably at only RM35 per serving (roughly 8-9 slices), it certainly is budget-friendly and delicious.

Beautifully charred on the outside.

On its own, the beefiness was pretty good. Incomparable to the Japanese Wagyu, but plenty of merits on its own. It's also a little firmer.

Every table will be given one of these pots with charcoal inside. Its surface area is fairly large, allowing you to grill several cuts of meat at one time.

Another unique thing about Yakiniku Goro is the sauces served for BBQ. On the left, you'll have a soy-base sauce, followed by a radish and spicy-sauce on the right. I personally like the radish one most as I thought it works best with the fatty slices Wagyu.

Japanese Appetiser Set (Regular) - RM25

If you enjoy Korean banchan, then I think you might enjoy this. 6 servings of appetisers of the day. Is it pricey? Yes. But was it nice? Also yes. A great way to lighten and freshen up.

Spicy Beef Broth with Rice - RM20

For starch, I went with this unassuming Spicy Beef Broth with Rice. I don't remember what it's called in Japanese, but I would say it's similar to a spicy-miso-type ramen, but instead of noodles, you get rice. It was alright, not too bad, and works great as a filler should the meat not be sufficient or perhaps you're too broke like me.

Saba - RM20

Standard Saba (Mackerel) fish that's been grilled and served with a side of lemon. It was okay, nothing too fancy. I did expected a little more 'fishy essence' to the Saba but it was pretty normal. Would not recommend this one.

Overall, I think Yakiniku Goro is a fantastic place for anyone looking for authentic Japanese BBQ on a budget. Quality of meat (although technically I only had 2) was fantastic. Service was great and friendly, and also awesome Suntory Highball price during Happy Hour - RM15 per glass.
