Hagi Japanese Cuisine @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), PJ

10:19:00 PM

It's been a while since my last write-up, and since Malaysia has been going through weeks of MCO (Movement Control Order) due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it's safe to say that I was stuck at home for a really long time without decent nutrition (or so to say). Which is why I'd like to share my recent discovery, on possibly one of the fanciest Japanese delivery in Malaysia!

Customizable Sushi Platter that can be up to RM1000!

Customized Sushi Platter - RM200++

In any great Japanese restaurants, Sushi is one of those things you can expect to do really well. In fact, most of the time, it's being used as a benchmark of how good the restaurant is. Here, we have Hagi Japanese Cuisine's very own customizable Sushi Platter!

From only RM200+, you can expect a variety of unique Nigiri and Maki. The selection of the day I had was Salmon, Maguro (Tuna), Kampachi (Yellowtail), Suzuki (Japanese Sea Bass), Engawa Fin (Fluke Fin) - this was my absolute favourite and I'll get back to it soon, Salmon Aburi Maki, Futomaki & Osomaki.

Aburi Engawa Fin Nigiri

This is probably one of the most unique Nigiri during my visit to Hagi Japanese Cuisine. It's called Engawa Fin, or rather Fluke Fin. It's fatty and really buttery, much more than Salmon Belly, though fairly identical. Definitely my favourite, and highly recommended for those who really like belly.

Red Vinegar Sushi Rice

What makes Hagi Japanese Cuisine really unique is also their use of Red Vinegar in their Sushi Rice. Popular in several regions around Japan, the use of Red Vinegar adds a little more Umami to the dish. It is also a staple in quite a number of Michelin Starred restaurants in Japan.

Hagi Japanese Cuisine also allows their customer to customized their Sushi Platter according to their own budget and liking. Prices range from RM200 all the way up to RM1,000! Yes, RM1,000, you'd definitely expect a fantastic feast of premium sushi.

Airflown fishes are brought in twice every week, ensuring freshness in every bite. A wide range of seafood delight such as prawns, scallop, fish, and sea urchin are just some of what's being brought in.

For those looking for something a little more filling, Maki is a great choice.

Aside from their Sushi Platter, they also have a variety of Don to choose from - all of which are incredibly premium and undeniably delicious.

Steak Don (Wagyu/Non-Wagyu) - RM60 / add. + Market Price

Starting with their Steak Don, it's done absolutely beautifully with a juicy slab of beef seared to perfection. Nice and rare in the middle, gorgeous sear on the edge. It's also served with sauteed mushrooms with reduced Signature Sauce, and finished with Herb Infused Butter.

This bowl of Don is rich and well-packed with Umami. Each bite is incredibly tender, making this bowl of Steak Don one of the best of its kind. Definitely recommended!

Special Chirashi Don - RM180

Nothing but the best of the ocean in this bowl. Gorgeous Otoro (Bluefin Tuna Belly), Hotate (Japanese Scallop), Maguro (Tuna), Engawa Fin (Fluke Fin), Uni and of course, my favourite Ikura (Salmon Eggs). This is definitely the titan of Dons. Everything was done to perfection, with flavours that really last in your mouth.

It is without doubt that it's also really fresh, where the essence of the sea is definitely distinguishable.

Chirashi Don - RM80

A slightly simpler and more humble version as compared to the Special Chirashi Don. This with the lack of Maguro & Uni, but still as delicious with less than half the price.

Chirashi Don - RM88/RM68 (with Uni/for delivery)

Those that prefer a little more variety, and something lighter should definitely try this out. A generous selection of 3 different fishes of day, Avocado, Cucumber, Tamago and of course, Ikura! Simple and delightful, definitely worth going for.

Salmon Mentai Maki

As mentioned previously, their selection of Maki was pretty good. This particular Salmon Mentai Maki is a crowd favourite - and personally, I do enjoy this as well. Salmon and cucumber, rolled in seaweed and red vinegar rice, finished with salmon sashimi & Aburi Mentaiko - a true classic with a great punch of flavour.

Avocado Unagi Maki - RM48

For Unagi & Avocado lovers, this is definitely for you. Generous portion of Unagi on top of Avocado Maki, creating a balance of sweet savoury, as well as freshness and tartness. Both this and the Salmon Mentai Maki are really popular amongst their customers, and highly rated!

Aside from deliveries, Hagi Japanese Cuisine actually prides themselves in serving some of the most affordable premium Omakase in the market. With prices starting at RM180 per person and a beautiful decor (as well as private rooms), it's definitely well worth the money.

Those looking for a private chef for an event can also contact them as they do provide Private Dining during this CMCO period. Just tell them what you'd like and they will send a chef to your home, preparing everything on the spot. An advance booking for 1 week is required.

So if you're looking for a place to celebrate, or simply just for a great Japanese meal, Hagi Japanese Cuisine may just be the one you're looking for!
