The majority of Malaysians have always been a fan of Japanese food. Whenever there is a need to celebrate an occasion, or perhaps enjoy a healthy dinner - Japanese would definitely be in the top 3 list. Having said that, a good Fine Dining Japanese Restaurant that excels in "Kaiseki" is indeed quite rare here in KL. For those who are unaware, the term "Kaiseki" represents a traditional multi-course dinner that showcases a variety of the chef's skills.

Fortunately, there's Xenri Japanese Cuisine, celebrating their 13th anniversary with a Kaiseki theme. Using fresh, premium and ultimately exclusive ingredients to prepare a series of dishes not only to please your tongue, but eyes as well. So without further ado, here are some of the best picks!

Starting off with a simple yet undeniably beautifully plated, creamy deep fried prawns. Served alongside a concoction of edamame and gingko, crispy rice net, scented chilli and 3 luscious, creamy and huge prawns. The result is nothing less than a mouth watering appetizer.

Next up, a dish fit for a king. Huge imported oysters topped with edible flowers, organic apple and Bainiku cubed jelly - a premium and luxurious product indeed. Ultimately, it all boils down to it being fresh, which is did not disappoint.

One of my personal favourites - Seared Bluefin Tuna with Avocado in Grapefruit. This vibrant and refreshing concoction of premium bluefin tuna, coupled together with cubes of avocado and grapefruits was truly wonderful. The fruits really helped in lightening the richness of the tuna, which created a nice contrast and balance of flavours.

Kicking it up a notch, the Snow Crab wrapped in sliced avocado, topped with caviar, edible flower and crisp followed by a tomato reduction sauce. The flavour was complex, but pleasant and enjoyable as well. The saltiness of the caviar really gave it that depth while the snow crab and avocado soaks up all that lovely flavour from the sauce.

Aburi Hokkaido Mukimi Hotate, a gorgeous blend of imported giant Japanese scallops pan-seared to perfection, topped with caviar, scented chilli, fried baby sardine cracker and finished in a pool of purple sea urchin glaze. The dish was traditionally served raw but for the sake of most Malaysians, it was done otherwise. Lovely flavours, firm and bouncy texture - a great blend to say the least.

If eating gold isn't luxurious enough - what is? This compilation of various seafood in one is second to none in terms of flavour, texture and presentation. Not only does it look visually stunning, it tasted absolutely amazing as well. It's rich yet light, allowing a subtle but scented aroma to permeate through, providing a lasting impression in your mouth - absolutely lovely!

All and all, if you're talking about the quality, taste and consistency of Xenri Japanese Japanese Cuisine, they've nailed it all. Not only does most of the dishes look absolutely amazing, they taste of similar qualities as well. So if you're looking for a place to wine and dine - Xenri Japanese Cuisine is definitely the place for you.
