If you love Japanese food and wish to obtain any form of high cholesterol or even worms, Sozo Japanese Restaurant may just be the place for you. It's situated right next to the most happening spot in Sunway Giza, next to all those bars and drinking place.

The gigantic signboard the entrance.

Fortunately for all you carnivores and penny-saving humans, Sozo Japanese Restaurant runs on an ala-carte buffet menu. Everything, and I do mean everything on the menu can be ordered from the buffet. Do not be fooled, the menu selection is huge! Plenty of things to choose from in which I will try my best to summarize it here.

Appetizers

We started off with a serving of potato salad, seasoned jellyfish, seasoned octopus and edamame. The potato salad was pretty simple but the seasoned jellyfish and octopus were very flavourful. As you can see, the seasoned octopus was drench in sauce - which wasn't exactly a bad thing. Not to mention that it was huge as well!

Sashimi

In any Japanese restaurant, it is vital and extremely crucial to order a serving (or more) of sashimi. As this was a ala-carte buffet, there was no holds barred. Regardless of what I ordered, it does not matter. The only thing that matters in sashimi is portion size, cut size and of course, freshness.

Freshness is not something anyone could mess around with. Screw up the cut, I can forgive. Screw up the portion, not a problem. But freshness, that's a whole different league. Fortunately, the sashimi I had at Sozo Japanese Restaurant was indeed fresh. The cut size was a little too thick, but was enjoyable nonetheless. A small note, do not let them sit in ice for too long as it might absorb the 'tap-water' taste from the ice itself. Apart from that, it was definitely a feast I enjoyed!

Salad / Side dishes

Apart from their large array of sashimis, they also offer a variety of salad and side nibbles. One of my favourite would be the fried shrimp. Crispy, salty and absolutely addictive. In fact, we had almost 6 serving!

Sushi & Maki

Of course, apart from the importance of sashimi, sushi plays an crucial role in the world of Japanese culinary as well. At Sozo Japanese Restaurant, they offer an extensive range of different sushi (salmon, tuna etc) and of course, customized maki. Choose from over 20 different choices to please that picky palette of yours.

This was only partially of what we had. There were so much more that it was almost impossible to take all of them. More than 150 items, all available throughout the buffet menu. From appetizers to starters, salad to sashimi, sushi and maki to bento sets, ramen and the list just goes on. Personally, I would simply just 'whack' the sashimi and sushi without hesitation. After all, the sashimi I had was really fresh and pleasant.

For avid Japanese eaters or simply glutinous human beings, Sozo Japanese Restaurant is definitely a place of visit. Especially since they are having a promotion right now. Lunch buffet costs only RM48 and dinner at RM55++. There is a 2 hour time limit but I'm quite sure that you'll be full by 90 minutes. Either way, do give it a try!
