Crave Cafe @ Oasis Square, Ara Damansara

4:09:00 PM

With the escalating rate of cafes opening in Malaysia, it is no wonder that even in Oasis Ara Damansara, there will be a few. Located right next to Mr & Mrs Cafe comes a new, Australian-inspired cafe named Crave Cafe.

The main entrance.

A wide selection of Coffee using Toby's Estate Coffee Beans from Australia. Something different from the regular illy's you see everywhere. Flavour wasn't as strong but it was aromatic.

Beautiful latte art

Pancakes with Caramelized Banana & Maple Syrup - RM10

Of course, being named Pancake by friends, I absolutely love pancakes. Be it with Maple syrup or Ice cream, I love it all.

The pancakes were pretty huge and slightly dense. Should be filling for most people. The caramelized banana and crushed nuts were a nice additional; added texture. The maple syrup was slightly more diluted than usual but I'm okay with that since it wasn't too sweet.

Crave's Big Breakfast - RM22

What's not to love about big breakfast? A general selection of eggs, toasted artisan bread, sauteed mushrooms, chicken sausages, beef bacon and beans. A few things that I wish was different would be the toast, sausage and eggs.

Perhaps buttered or garlic toast, seasoned eggs and flavoured sausages. The platter felt a little too bland for my taste.

Salmon Scramble - RM15

Slices of smoked salmon laid on top of a bed of scramble eggs and toast. Smoked salmon was delicious, eggs could use a little more seasoning but the texture was moist and lovable. Toast, could've been buttered for added flavour.

Avocado Eggs Benedict with Feta Cheese

Something new in the menu which I find pretty workable with a little tweaking. The avocado spread was a good mix along with the feta cheese. However, I do prefer pork bacon and poached eggs instead of beef bacon and fried egg. But being a pork-free cafe, its acceptable as it is. One last thing lacking was seasoning as it was a little bland.

Chicken Parmigiana - RM22

2 large serving of chicken breast with melted cheese, tomato based bell peppers and sliced roast tomatoes. Good portion at a reasonable price. However, chicken was a little overcooked and dry but the sauce helped. Cheese was nicely melted on top and chicken was relatively crispy. Last but not least, the chicken was also baked not fried for a healthier option.

Green Pesto Chicken - RM18

Not a big fan of pesto pasta but they have done this pretty well. It was rich, creamy and full of flavour. The use of spirali was a great compliment to the sauce.

Seabass in Spicy Cream Sauce - RM15

Despite the not-so-pretty plating, it was actually pretty good. The rice was cooked with various herbs which gave it that aromatic scent and flavour. The fish was moist and tender, but not flakey. The spicy cream sauce was really nice; complimenting both the rice and the fish. The rack of long beans and carrots reminds me of a bonfire which I have no clue why.

Gula Melaka Cake

Something new besides the common carrot cake. The use of gula melaka was neither overpowering nor subtle but at the right balance. The cake was also moist and fluffy which I believe is really important.

Nutella Mille Crepe Cake

Yes, you've heard that right. Internet Nutella fans now can enjoy its Mille Crepe Cake at Crave Cafe. Striking the right balance between its sweetness, texture and hazelnutty flavour is pretty difficult. However, it taste amazing here. Absolutely loved it. By far one of my favourite cakes.

Overall, I believe Crave Cafe will have to season a majority of its dishes because they were pretty bland. Despite that, I still enjoyed the Pancakes, Salmon Scramble, Avocado Eggs Benedict, Green Pesto Chicken, Seabass in Spicy Sauce and the Nutella Mille Crepe Cake.
