Calling all steamboats, hotpot and mala lovers, Fei Fan Hotpot is definitely a place of visit to satisfy that soupy craving of yours. Similar to Suki-ya or Suki-shi, Fei Fan Hotpot is a buffet style steamboat restaurant with a variety of proteins, vegetables, noodles and soup to choose from.
Starting with the soup; they have 4 different broths for you to choose. Their Signature Pork Bone soup, which have been cooked over low-heat for several hours to bring out that sweet & savoury umami pork essence.
Another one of my personal favourites would be the Pepper Pig's Stomach Soup, one that most of them find it a little too 'pepper-y'. I liked mine incredibly the way Fei Fan Hotpot did it, as it was both 'pepper-y' and spicy. It also had a nice rich and savoury taste.
The remaining 2 options are Tomato Soup & Spicy Mala Soup, which I found to be alright. If you're into something a little bit more tangy, then the Tomato Soup is the way to go. Quite obviously, if you liked yours a little spicy, then Mala would be the best choice.
In terms of proteins, they have a ton of options to choose from. Some of my personal favourites and highly recommended items are:
Beef Slices; as they were neither too fat nor lean - just about right.
Pork Slices; nice soft and fat
Pork & Beef Balls; these balls are all made inhouse by cleaving. Highly recommended and definitely do go for them.
Look at that gorgeous piece of sliced beef - perfectly pink in the middle, juicy and incredibly flavourful!
There are also plenty of other options, but I only take beef and occasionally pork for steamboat. I'm not too fond of chicken.
If terms of vegetables, there's more than enough for everyone. With a variety of leafy greens and rather pricey broccoli, this section of the steamboat is definitely one of my favourites. Compared to most steamboat buffets out there, there aren't only more options here, but they're a lot fresher as well.
They also recommended us their homemade udon noodles, which is done with an authentic recipe from Japan. The udon was incredibly springy and smooth, definitely worth trying out if you like noodles.
Otherwise, there's also the standard Yee Mee available.
Sauces, like most Chinese steamboat places, allows you to mix and match to create your own flavour. Choose from the variety of toppings as well as sauces and develop your own unique dipping sauce!
Drinks such as orange and passionfruit juice, as well as infused water are available. Softserve machine comes with 2 flavours - vanilla and chocolate!
Interiorly, it's both spacious and comfortable with a good amount of ventilation so you don't have to feel overly stuffy. There's still smoke here and there but hey, that's the fun part about steamboat.
The prices are also incredibly reasonable at RM35.90 per adult for a 120 minute session. There's definitely plenty of time to enjoy everything if not most of the items on the menu. There's also various student discounts and promos available throughout the day, so do remember to source for them!

The snacks here had a smooth taste with a bit of cheese and lime juice. To start, we got pork rinds there; they were really flavorful with a spicy kick and smooth taste. Plus, it was a large fresh bag too, Chicago venues are worth the price.
