Moobaan Thai Food @ Taman Bukit Desa, KL

Moobaan Thai Food is one of the latest Thai food currently going unnoticed in the competitive world of culinary. This humble restaurant is located in Taman Bukit Desa, same row with Encore Cafe. The bright and vibrant cyan-coloured entrance should be eye-catching enough to draw your attention. The signboard seems relatively Thai, so finding it shouldn't be a problem.

An array of food!

The entrance.

Inside, you'll be greeted by a rather unassuming cart-like counter along with tables throughout the restaurant. The set-up too is fairly simple, with a few baby colours alongside monotonous black and white.

Starting off with some Thai milk tea.

Our feast begun with a fried bacon with minced garlic appetizer. It was served in a rather small plate but the portion is well worth the price. Crispy, not exactly juice but packed with a good load of flavour, this plate of appetizer will certainly get your tastebuds runnning.

Followed by a serving of Pomelo Salad (on the left) and minced pork salad (on the right). The pomelo salad had a nice depth where different flavours intertwine. The sweetness of the pomelo worked really well with the acidity and spiciness of the sauce. Mixed with crushed nuts, shallots, spring onions and several other ingredients, the texture too was great.

The pork salad on the other hand, felt rather dull in comparison. However, the profile of flavours was great to say the least. It's sour, sweet and a had a hint of spiciness. The minced pork was also tender and succulent.

Though this may sound weird, but that is an appetizer as well. Although it can be considered as a side dish, I would personally place it under something to start with. Deep fried hard boiled egg topped with tamarind sauce and fried shallots. It's simple, addictive and absolutely delicious - especially the sauce.

A rather common dish, Pad Thai. Cooked with a good amount of flavour, but slightly salty compared to most. It's also a little moist but I enjoy it that way. Served with two relatively large prawns.

Marinated fried chicken wings. Fresh chicken wings seasoned lightly and fried till golden perfection. The flesh remained moist while the skin was crispy. Lovely!

Next on the menu is a rather common Thai dish that can be found almost anywhere. Braised minced pork, done with a good amount of sauce and ingredients that gives it that depth of savouriness. Juicy minced pork and was an absolute delight when mixed with rice.

Or you can simply order one that comes with rice and a sunny side up.

Last but not least, Thai food wouldn't be complete without a some authentic tom yam. Moobaan has two version, the regular red tomyam and white or clear tomyam. Despite the red tasting really good, where it's done with coconut milk, I'd choose the white anyday. Simply because red tomyam is rather common in comparison.

The white tomyam on the other hand, is slightly rarer and a little more appetizing. The lightness of the soup means drinking it directly without rice is plausible, although going with rice is the recommended method. The acidity and sweetness of the soup too were great, which made me go back for more. Ingredients such as squid and pork belly were incredibly fresh and juicy, which adds to the list of good things about the white tomyam. Overall, this comes highly recommened!

In conclusion, Moobaan Thai Food is more than just a place for lunch. It's a place where friends and family gather to enjoy a delicious Thai meal. Not to mention that the price is set at an incredible rate, with nothing more than RM20. Good food, affordable pricing and a cozy environment, what's not to love?

  2. Try the pandan lemongrass drink (taste like plain water) and pineapple fried rice which cost me $15. I don't mind even if it was serve on normal plate but the portion is so small with no Thai style. Just a few slice of pineapple with bits of carrots, corns and luncheon meat ???? Hey, where is the cashew nuts ??
    Authentic Thai ? Nah.......
